The story behind Lantic Rum 🥃
I’ve always loved rum, but never wanted to make something unless it felt genuinely tied to Cornwall, in the same way our gins do. So after the Craft Rum Club approached me to create a rum for their members, I started experimenting, blending different types of rums and locally foraged botanicals.
Jamaican rums are bold, fruity and full of character. Caribbean rums tend to be smoother and lighter, with a cleaner profile. When you blend them together, you get a foundation that’s rich without being heavy, bright without feeling thin.
To create a coastal rather than tropical character, I first chose sugar kelp to give the rum that quiet saline whisper. Balanced with the sweetness of Cornish honey, and floral notes of gorse, heather, sweet clover and rosehips, it creates a soft umami flavour.

How to enjoy it
Lantic Rum doesn’t need much fuss. The best way to taste all the coastal threads is pouring it over a big ice cube, add an orange peel to lift the citrus edge.
If you’re mixing, I’d say keep it clean. A good ginger ale works beautifully. The spice carries the honey notes and lets the kelp sit quietly in the background. And if you’re in the mood for something warming, it’s a brilliant drink by the fire.
Lantic Rum is small batch, handmade, rooted in the same philosophy as our gins: Of Cornwall, not just made in Cornwall.
I can’t wait for you to try it and tell me what you taste. Every palate finds something different, which is part of the fun. 🙂
